Dustin Johnson Made a Hole-in-One at Valderrama and Reacted Like Someone Told Him the Time

Dustin Johnson made a hole-in-one at LIV Golf Andalucía. Aced a 186-yard par-3 at Real Club Valderrama — one of the most revered courses in Europe — in the third round. Shot a 7-under 64, the lowest round of the day. And when the ball disappeared into the cup, he responded with the same energy he’d give a routine par on a Tuesday practice round. Absolutely nothing. That’s DJ. That’s the bit.

The Ace

Third round, par-3 third hole, Real Club Valderrama, Sotogrande, Spain. Johnson’s tee shot landed softly, took a few hops, and found the bottom of the cup. 186 yards. The gallery went appropriately wild. Johnson acknowledged this with the kind of measured response you’d use if someone handed you the correct change.

It was the second hole-in-one of the week at LIV Andalucía — Lucas Herbert got there first — and the 18th ace in LIV Golf league history. Valderrama has seen a lot of great golf over the decades. DJ’s non-reaction might be the most Valderrama thing to ever happen there.

The Round That Followed

As if the ace needed context, Johnson then went ahead and shot 7-under 64 — the day’s best score. He moved to T-4 alongside Jon Rahm, with Tyrrell Hatton holding a two-shot lead heading into the final round. A hole-in-one is usually the headline moment of a round. For Johnson it was basically a footnote in a 64 that included six other birdies at one of the world’s most demanding venues.

Valderrama doesn’t give out 64s easily. It’s a narrow, tree-lined, wind-affected course that hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and seven Volvo Masters events. It fights back. DJ didn’t notice.

The Reaction That Made It Better

The hole-in-one celebration was described, generously, as nonchalant. Infuriatingly nonchalant. The viral clips show a man who has apparently been informed that he made an ace and is processing this information at a comfortable pace. No fist pump. No roar. Just Dustin Johnson, quietly confirming that golf shots are something that happen sometimes.

It is somehow the perfect response. He hit a hole-in-one at Valderrama and shot 64. What’s there to get excited about?

That takes some balls — even if you’d never know it from the face.
