What Changed for 2026
Two key updates this generation:
- Tour Fast Mantle — 16% stiffer than the previous mantle layer. Stiffer mantle = more efficient energy transfer at impact = more ball speed without a harder feel. This is the same mantle tech Callaway put in the Chrome Tour first, filtered down to the Soft.
- Hyper Fast Soft Core — reworked for lower driver spin (around 2,200 rpm in testing) while maintaining the soft compression feel Chrome Soft is known for. The result is 4-5 extra yards of carry over the previous version.

How It Actually Plays
Off the driver: Lower spin than the previous Chrome Soft, which means a more penetrating flight and the extra carry. It doesn’t balloon in normal conditions, and in the wind it holds its line better than softer-spinning alternatives.
Into greens: This is where Chrome Soft has always been strong and that hasn’t changed. The urethane cover grips the clubface properly on approach shots and produces reliable stopping power from 100-150 yards. Not as firm as a Pro V1, but the spin numbers are genuinely competitive.
Around the greens: Very soft off the putter and responsive on chips. The feel here is the ball’s strongest suit — players who prioritise short-game feedback tend to love it.
Who It’s For
Mid-handicappers who want a premium urethane ball without the firm, tour-player feel of a Pro V1 or TP5x. Golfers who prioritise feel and short game control over absolute ball speed. Anyone who’s been playing a mid-range ionomer ball and wants to upgrade without a dramatic change in how the ball feels at impact.
What it’s not ideal for: very fast swingers (105+ mph) who need maximum compression and ball speed — the Chrome Tour is the right call for those players. And golfers who want a firm, clicky feel will find the Chrome Soft too muted.
How It Compares
Distance off the driver is comparable to the Pro V1. Short game spin is close. The Chrome Soft comes in softer and at a slightly lower price point.
