Bridgestone Put Tire Tread on a Golf Ball. It Actually Makes Sense.

Bridgestone makes golf balls. Bridgestone also makes tires. Someone at HQ finally decided to see what happens when you combine the two — and the result is the new e6 SOFT TREADLINE.

The concept is straightforward. Bridgestone took the tread pattern from their Dueler A/T Ascent tire and wrapped it around a golf ball as an alignment aid. A bold printed line runs 360 degrees around the entire ball, so no matter how you pick it up off the green, there’s always something to aim with.

Alignment aids on golf balls aren’t new — Callaway’s Triple Track and various single-line balls have been around for years. What’s different here is the 360-degree wrap. The idea is that you never have to rotate the ball to find your line; there’s always a reference visible from any angle. Whether that genuinely improves your putting or just gives you something to fiddle with on the green is between you and your stroke.

Under the tire-inspired exterior, it’s a standard two-piece e6 SOFT: large gradational compression core, soft Surlyn cover, built for moderate swing speeds, distance, and a forgiving feel off the face. The existing e6 SOFT is a solid ball for mid-to-high handicappers, so the TREADLINE is essentially that same ball with a very opinionated paint job.

It’s limited edition and retails for $23.99 a dozen — right where the regular e6 lives. If you’re already playing the e6 SOFT and you line your putts up, it’s a natural upgrade. If you’re a urethane-only golfer who draws your own line with a Sharpie anyway, probably move on.
